It Chapter Two Movie Review

It Chapter Two is a horror film directed by Andy Muschietti, and is the sequel to the 2017 movie It.  The film stars James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, and Bill Skarsgård.  The story follows the Losers Club all grown up, 27 years after they fought the evil clown Pennywise.  Now Pennywise is back in their hometown of Derry, Maine, and so the Losers must all come back to get rid of the menacing clown for good.
I am a huge fan of the first It, and considered it one of the best movies of 2017.  Chapter Two was one of my most anticipated films of this year, and I walked away feeling more or less satisfied with what this movie gave me.
First of all, something that everybody seems to be talking about is the cast, and for good reason.  The actors are all wonderful, and they do a great job at personifying the members of the Losers Club, and how they act as adults.  They look almost exactly like their younger counterparts, and the way that they talk and act is also just like how the younger versions of themselves acted and talked.  Bill Skarsgård is magnificent as Pennywise, and he constantly treads that fine line between being scary and being funny.  The visual elements and CGI effects are mostly really cool, and look great, the music is very effective, and gets you to feel certain emotions based on what is going on in a scene, and the camerawork is consistently interesting.
Now for the stuff I didn’t care for.  I thought that the film was too long, and could’ve been trimmed down at least 20 minutes.  The pacing was somewhat of a mess, and some parts really dragged, while others went by too quickly.  There were some really stupid things that happened in the film which I’m hesitant to get into for fear of spoiling the movie for those who haven’t yet seen it, but one of those things happens to be the return of an old character who is now all grown up.  I thought that the movie easily could have done without this character, and suffered a bit because of him.  I also was incredibly distracted by the de-aging and ADR effects used on the child actors.  They made Finn Wolfhard look like an alien, and some of their dialogue sounded like it was sped up, which was really annoying.
Besides that though, There wasn’t really anything else that bothered me terribly about the film.  I thought It Chapter Two was a pretty decent movie.  Was it great?  No.  Was it terrible?  No.  Was it better than the first film?  Definitely not.  But, it was a good experience overall, and a nice conclusion to the story, that wrapped itself up quite nicely.  In the end, I walked out of It Chapter Two feeling satisfied, and generally happy with what I got, and I think that if you are a fan of the first film, you will enjoy this one too.

Best Films of 2020

As I’m sure you all know, 2020 was a difficult year for many people.  It presented us with all sorts of new challenges the likes of which most of us have never seen before.  It was especially tough for movie-lovers like myself, because in the town where I live and the surrounding areas, movie theaters were constantly being shut down, then reopened for a few weeks only to be shut down again.  That being said, I didn’t get to see nearly as many films as I did in 2019, and a lot of the films I did see were films I didn’t have time to write reviews for before the year ended.  For that, I apologize.  I think it goes without saying that all of the movies on this list are ones that I really enjoyed, and I recommend checking out all of them if you get the chance.  These are the films I enjoyed watching the most in 2020.   Honorable Mentions:  Mank Babyteeth Hamilton Hunter Hunter 10. Da 5 Bloods Movie Review

“Why do you fight against us, so far away from where you are needed?” - Hanoi Hannah Da 5 Bloods is the newest film directed by Spike Lee, and it stars Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Chadwick Boseman, and Jonathan Majors.  The film tells the tale of four Black veterans who return to Vietnam in the present day to bring home the remains of a fallen soldier.  However, that isn’t their only mission.  They are also there to recover a cache of buried gold and split the money between the four of them.   Da 5 Bloods is an incredibly intense yet heartfelt film, and it’s also very important and relevant to what’s going on in the world today.  It’s an extremely politically charged movie, and while that could be a turn-off for some people, I think it’s the type of film that needs to be seen regardless of who you are.  It’s informative and educational, and it gives the viewer knowledge about our current political climate as well as t...
