Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Movie Review

“Spider-Man doesn’t wear a cape.” - Peter B. Parker
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is the new Spider-Man film starring Jake Johnson, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Liev Schreiber, and directed by Peter Ramsey, Robert Persichetti Jr., and Rodney Rothman.  When young Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is bitten by a radioactive spider, he develops strange powers that could lead him to become the next Spider-Man. Meanwhile, the villainous Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) tries to open up a portal to different dimensions, which causes Spider-People from other realms to appear in Miles’s dimension.
This film was extremely inventive, and creative, and showed us the virtually infinite directions that the story of our friendly neighborhood crimefighter could take.  To start off, the story of this film is incredible. This is easily one of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever told. The voice acting is amazing, and all of the actors did a fantastic job.  Speaking of actors, the real standout for me is Mahershala Ali. His line delivery is excellent, and his character had his signature coolness, which especially reminded me of his role from the 2016 film Moonlight.
The soundtrack is fantastic, and even outdoes the soundtrack to Black Panther, which came out earlier this year.  The characters are very well fleshed out, and very well developed. The action scenes are spectacular, and are just as effective as action scenes from live action movies.  Probably my favorite aspect of this film is the overall style. The animation is beautiful, and this is easily my favorite animated film of the year. I loved how the film looked like a comic book, and really managed to pop off the screen.
My only real flaw with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is that there were a few brief moments where the action scenes were somewhat hard to follow because they were so frenetic.  But that’s it. Into The Spider-Verse is easily one of the best superhero films of the year, and I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves Spider-Man, anyone who loves good animation, or anyone who loves a well told story in general.  Definitely check this one out. And make sure to stay till the very end for the hilarious post credits scene as well.

Best Films of 2020

As I’m sure you all know, 2020 was a difficult year for many people.  It presented us with all sorts of new challenges the likes of which most of us have never seen before.  It was especially tough for movie-lovers like myself, because in the town where I live and the surrounding areas, movie theaters were constantly being shut down, then reopened for a few weeks only to be shut down again.  That being said, I didn’t get to see nearly as many films as I did in 2019, and a lot of the films I did see were films I didn’t have time to write reviews for before the year ended.  For that, I apologize.  I think it goes without saying that all of the movies on this list are ones that I really enjoyed, and I recommend checking out all of them if you get the chance.  These are the films I enjoyed watching the most in 2020.   Honorable Mentions:  Mank Babyteeth Hamilton Hunter Hunter 10. Da 5 Bloods    Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods is a unique sto...
