Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny Movie Review

“Hey, whassup?  Me and KG wrote this song five minutes ago.” - JB a.k.a. Jables
Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny is a 2006 comedy directed by Liam Lynch.  It stars Jack Black and Kyle Gass as themselves. In the film, they form the band Tenacious D, and they go on a quest to find a legendary satanic guitar pick called The Pick Of Destiny, encountering many strange things along the way.
This film has achieved cult status over the years, and while it is a fun party movie that you can have a good time with among friends, make no mistake, it is also a terrible movie.  The storyline is what you would expect if you are familiar with real life comedy rock band Tenacious D, but the script is absolutely awful.  The dialogue was just unbelievably stupid, and had me shaking my head the entire movie. The “comedy” here isn’t even funny, and when it is, it’s funny for the wrong reasons.  This is the type of movie that is so bad it’s laughable.
The acting is very over the top, but not in a good way.  Both Black and Gass’s performances here were very, very bad.  Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller, and Dave Grohl make mildly amusing appearances in the film, but that’s not to say it’s humorous.  As I said, none of the jokes really land, and when it’s funny, it’s funny for all the wrong reasons. The set design is just really bad, and looks like a kindergartner's art project.  The only thing I liked about the film was the music, and of course, all of the music in this film is taken from Tenacious D’s album The Pick Of Destiny. This is truly a terrible film in every way possible.

Best Films of 2020

As I’m sure you all know, 2020 was a difficult year for many people.  It presented us with all sorts of new challenges the likes of which most of us have never seen before.  It was especially tough for movie-lovers like myself, because in the town where I live and the surrounding areas, movie theaters were constantly being shut down, then reopened for a few weeks only to be shut down again.  That being said, I didn’t get to see nearly as many films as I did in 2019, and a lot of the films I did see were films I didn’t have time to write reviews for before the year ended.  For that, I apologize.  I think it goes without saying that all of the movies on this list are ones that I really enjoyed, and I recommend checking out all of them if you get the chance.  These are the films I enjoyed watching the most in 2020.   Honorable Mentions:  Mank Babyteeth Hamilton Hunter Hunter 10. Da 5 Bloods    Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods is a unique sto...
