“Do you know that I pray every night that he would escape?” - Laurie Strode
I really did enjoy this movie, and I think it’s right on par with the original. There are some really great kills in this movie, and a lot of brutal, intense, gory scenes that worked really well. I enjoyed the creativity that was on display, not only creative kills, but creative shots and camera angles that really utilized Michael Myers’s presence, and made him intimidating. One thing that has always made Michael Myers scary for me was not only his stoic, silent, emotionless nature, and his relentlessness, but the way he is presented physically, coupled with shots that have him lingering in the background waiting for him to strike. This film understands that, and succeeds in making him scary again.
The camerawork is fantastic in this film, and so is the music. The score of the film harkens back to the original, and has that cool ‘70’s feel to it. Jamie Lee Curtis is really good here, and I like what they did with her character. The one character I loved in this movie is Haluk Bilginer’s Dr. Sartain, the replacement for Donald Pleasence’s Dr. Samuel Loomis. He plays a pivotal role in the life of Michael Myers, and was one of the best parts of the film. Another thing I liked was the use of humor through a certain child actor.
I liked the storyline a lot, and found the direction they took it to be very interesting. For the most part, the acting in this film is pretty good, but the dialogue, as with the original, was a little sloppy at times. Overall, I dug Halloween, and would say it’s just as good as the original.
