A Simple Favor Movie Review

“I think loneliness probably kills more people than cancer.” - Stephanie Smothers
A simple favor is a thriller comedy directed by Paul Feig, and starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively.  It’s about a single mother (Kendrick) who, after her best friend (Lively) goes missing, investigates her disappearance through her vlog.  While I didn’t adore this film like some people did, I did like it, and found it to be perfectly enjoyable.
I thought the story was entertaining, though there were some boring parts.  I really loved the music choice in the film, which is comprised primarily of some really excellent French pop music.  I appreciate this decision very much because I’ve always really loved French music for some reason.
I thought some of the dialogue was a little iffy, but overall, it was okay.  I thought the acting was pretty good, especially from Blake Lively and Henry Golding, who has really been showing some real promise lately, with his performance in the excellent Crazy Rich Asians, and now A Simple Favor.  Anna Kendrick had her moments, but overall, she was pretty good. However, there was a really annoying child performance that had me laughing at points because it was so bad.
The cinematography looked very nice, and the locations were very beautiful.  There were some pacing issues, with some scenes dragging on for a long time. I liked the twist, but found it to be somewhat predictable.  In fact, I found the whole film to be quite predictable. The sound design wasn’t all that fantastic either, if I’m being perfectly honest.
Overall, I had a fairly enjoyable time with A Simple Favor, and I think that if you’re in the mood for a cool, hip, twisty chick flick, this film will not disappoint.

Best Films of 2020

As I’m sure you all know, 2020 was a difficult year for many people.  It presented us with all sorts of new challenges the likes of which most of us have never seen before.  It was especially tough for movie-lovers like myself, because in the town where I live and the surrounding areas, movie theaters were constantly being shut down, then reopened for a few weeks only to be shut down again.  That being said, I didn’t get to see nearly as many films as I did in 2019, and a lot of the films I did see were films I didn’t have time to write reviews for before the year ended.  For that, I apologize.  I think it goes without saying that all of the movies on this list are ones that I really enjoyed, and I recommend checking out all of them if you get the chance.  These are the films I enjoyed watching the most in 2020.   Honorable Mentions:  Mank Babyteeth Hamilton Hunter Hunter 10. Da 5 Bloods    Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods is a unique sto...
