True Detective Season 1 T.V. Review

“Of course I’m dangerous.  I’m police. I can do terrible things to people with impunity.” - Detective Rustin “Rust” Cohle
True Detective is an original HBO anthology crime series whose first season stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as two detectives investigating a disturbing occult related murder case.
Let me start by saying that this is officially my favorite t.v. show of all time.  All 8 episodes are absolutely phenomenal. One thing I love about this series is its character development.  This show has such a knack for character it’s crazy. This show especially has a knack for creating characters who are particularly unsavory at best.
The dialogue is as sharp as a knife, and the story is gripping. This show has so many threads throughout that tie it together in such a neat way. Episode 5 is probably the singular best episode of television I have seen as of this date.
And don’t even get me started on the music. It’s absolutely phenomenal, and I eagerly anticipated the opening credits of each episode just to hear that haunting theme song one more time.
The camerawork is absolutely masterful. That tracking shot at the end of episode 4?  Maaaan… This show is incredible in every way and has set a new standard for what television should be.
Rating: TV-MA

Grade: A+

Best Films of 2020

As I’m sure you all know, 2020 was a difficult year for many people.  It presented us with all sorts of new challenges the likes of which most of us have never seen before.  It was especially tough for movie-lovers like myself, because in the town where I live and the surrounding areas, movie theaters were constantly being shut down, then reopened for a few weeks only to be shut down again.  That being said, I didn’t get to see nearly as many films as I did in 2019, and a lot of the films I did see were films I didn’t have time to write reviews for before the year ended.  For that, I apologize.  I think it goes without saying that all of the movies on this list are ones that I really enjoyed, and I recommend checking out all of them if you get the chance.  These are the films I enjoyed watching the most in 2020.   Honorable Mentions:  Mank Babyteeth Hamilton Hunter Hunter 10. Da 5 Bloods    Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods is a unique sto...
