Locke & Key Season One T.V. Review

“The past is always with us.” - Rendell Locke Locke & Key is a Netflix series that is based on the graphic novel series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.  The show stars Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Darby Stanchfield, and Laysla De Oliveira.  The series follows the Lockes, a family who recently suffered the loss of Rendell, the father of the family.  Looking for a fresh start, Tyler, Kinsey, Bode, and their widowed mother Nina move to Massachusetts to live in Keyhouse, the mansion where Rendell grew up.  As the three Locke children explore Keyhouse, they find magical keys that have special abilities, and they soon discover that there is an evil entity that wants to take the keys from them. I have read the graphic novels on which the show is based multiple times, and consider Locke & Key to be one of my favorite comic series of all time.  I was so excited when I found out that the comics were being given a Netflix adaptatio...

The Gentlemen Movie Review

“When the lion’s hungry, he eats!” - Michael ‘Mickey’ Pearson The Gentlemen is a British gangster comedy directed by Guy Ritchie, and starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, and Michelle Dockery.  McConaughey plays Mickey Pearson, an American expat who owns a vast network of weed farms.  Mickey built his marijuana empire from the ground up, and now that he has all the money and power he could ask for, he decides it’s time to retire, and hand his business off to someone else.  However, there are multiple groups of people who intend to steal our protagonist’s business, which creates some problems for him.  This is only a tiny fragment of the complex, twisty plot of The Gentlemen , but if I were to tell you everything that happens in the film, we’d be here a while. Guy Ritchie is most known for gangster comedies like Snatch , and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels , but there was a period in his career where he br...

Birds Of Prey Movie Review

“Psychologically speaking, vengeance rarely brings the catharsis we hope for.” - Harley Quinn Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) , more commonly known as just Birds Of Prey , is the newest film in the DCEU.  It’s directed by Cathy Yan, and stars Margot Robbie, Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Rosie Perez.  It takes place after the events of Suicide Squad , and follows Harley Quinn after she cuts ties with the Joker.   Out of all the people I talked to that have seen Birds Of Prey , most of them seemed to really enjoy it, and while there were some awesome choices made, there were also a lot of things that really didn’t work for me, which is why I think the film is just okay.  My feelings about Birds Of Prey are very similar to my feelings about 2018’s Aquaman . I think that both films are fun to watch maybe once, but they’re not the types of films that I would find myself rewatching any ti...
