100 Bullets Comic Book Review

“Inside this attaché case is irrefutable evidence that what I’m telling you is true.  Also in the attaché is a gun, and one-hundred rounds of ammunition.  All untraceable, all yours.  Do with it as you see fit.” - Agent Philip Graves 100 Bullets is an American crime series written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Eduardo Risso.  It had a 100-issue-long run that began in 1999 and ended a decade later in 2009.  The story told in this series is a very complicated one.  It starts out simply enough with a character called Agent Graves.  Graves goes around to different people who have had wrongs committed against them and provides these people with a briefcase containing a handgun, 100 untraceable bullets, and evidence that reveals who committed these wrongs.  The victims are given carte blanche and are assured by Graves that no police action will be taken should they choose to use the weapon and ammo provided.  This is how the story b...

Ford v Ferrari Movie Review

“We’re lighter, we’re faster, and if that don’t work, we’re nastier.” - Carroll Shelby Ford v Ferrari is a new film directed by James Mangold, and stars Matt Damon as famed automotive designer Carroll Shelby, and Christian Bale as his driver, Ken Miles.  Together, the two men must work together to help Ford beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is a 24 hour long road race that takes place in the city of Le Mans, France. Ford v Ferrari was not a movie that I was terribly excited to see, but I wanted to keep an open mind.  After all, the movie had been getting a lot of buzz from both audiences and critics alike.  After seeing the film for myself, it’s easy to see why people enjoyed it so much.  I was really surprised by not only the technical aspects of the movie, but also the performances.  Christian Bale deserves an Oscar nomination for his work here as Ken Miles.  He totally brings the character to life, and portrays him with spunk, energ...

Dolemite Is My Name Movie Review

“I want you to live the life that you love, and love the life that you live.” - Rudy Ray Moore a.k.a. Dolemite Dolemite Is My Name is a new film starring Eddie Murphy as the comedic legend Rudy Ray Moore.  The film also stars Mike Epps, Keegan-Michael Key, Wesley Snipes, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and is directed by Craig Brewer.  The movie was given a limited release in theaters, but was also released on Netflix.  It tells the story of real life entertainer Rudy Ray Moore, a man who has a vision of becoming so big that everyone knows his name.  He doesn’t get much attention until one day, he decides to create a fictional character.  His character is that of a smart, funny, witty, tough, kung fu fighting, foul-mouthed, jive-talking, rhyming, street-savvy pimp named Dolemite, who is adored by women, and hated by police, governors, and authority figures everywhere.  Once Dolemite gets more and more popular, Moore decides t...

Parasite Movie Review

“They’re nice because they’re rich.” - Kim Chung-sook Parasite is the latest Korean language film from director Bong Joon-ho.  It’s a satire that tells the story of the poverty-ridden Kim family, as they all get jobs working in various positions for the extremely rich Park family.  But little does the Park family know, the entire Kim family is scamming them the whole time, and leeching off of their funds, their food, and even their house, hence the title Parasite . I took my dad to see this film, and it was sort of a milestone for both of us, because my dad, up until Parasite , had never seen a foreign film in his life, and I had never experienced a foreign film in a theater setting before.  I think it’s safe to say that we were both genuinely captivated by Parasite not only during the film, but also long after the film had ended.  This movie inspired a long discussion between my father and I that lasted for a great chunk of the one-and-a-half hour car ride ...

Doctor Sleep Movie Review

“Eat well, live long.” - Rose The Hat Doctor Sleep is the new film by Mike Flanagan, and serves as a direct sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror classic, The Shining .  Ewan McGregor stars as Danny Torrance, who is now all grown up.  His Shine has become more powerful, and he now uses his special gift to help people who need it, but not always in ways that you might expect.  Elsewhere, the True Knot cult, led by a woman named Rose the Hat, is hunting and killing people who have the ability to Shine.  They are on the trail of pursuing a young girl named Abra, who just so happens to be one of the most powerful people to ever have possessed the gift of Shining.  Abra eventually crosses paths with Danny, who now goes by just “Dan”, and this leads to some very interesting situations. If you guys read my review of The Shining , you know that it’s my favorite horror film of all time, and that I consider it a masterpiece.  So naturally, my anticipation f...

The Shining Movie Review

“Here’s Johnny!” - Jack Torrance The Shining is the classic Stanley Kubrick adaptation of Stephen King’s famous horror novel.  The film came out in 1980, and stars Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, a husband and father who is applying for an offseason job as a caretaker for a place that is now cemented as one of the most iconic buildings in film history: the Overlook Hotel.  He is informed by the manager of the Overlook that years ago, a man named Grady took the same job that Torrance is interviewing for now, and that over the duration of his stay at the hotel, he went insane, massacred his entire family, and killed himself immediately after the fact.  Torrance seems fascinated by this story and decides to take the job, bringing his wife Wendy, and young son Danny along with him.  Before long, the inevitable happens to Torrance.  Cabin fever starts to set in, and he slowly grows more and more insane throughout the course of the film.  Meanwhile, we lea...
